Jim Meade
Obituary

Jim ( Tangerine 31 ) Meade Passed away on 2013-01-23
Jim passed away in his sleep. He had been struggling with some medical issues for some time. Jim was a ROMAD during the Vietnam war Tangerine 31 (SF) (Song Be) and survived many incursions into Indian country.

Notes from Charlie Heidal: I met Jim while I was on a trip to Australia in 2006. He had more energy than people half his age. We became friends over the years and it was sad to hear he left us. At least it was in a painless sleep. God Speed my friend. Meet you at the next rally point...

Mike Humphrey has just notified me that another of the Original Pack Rats has pass away:

Jim Mead passed away in his sleep on 23 Jan 2013, God Speed my friend, Robin, you probable remember Jim - he was also on of the first Nam Pack Rats, 173rd I believe.

I received an email from Jims wife. She is having his funeral today and grieving - 30 Jan 2013. Not bothering her out of respect and she said she will try to and get an obit to us. I do not know them personally beyond communications on the  FACENET@yahoogroups.com.  I have been a member of that group and of the old FAC_TASS@yahoogroups.com for about 10 years now.  I will keep you informed when and if I hear from Jims wife. She and Jim resided in Australia.

Vincent Richard Green
of Port Orchard

Born:Jan. 2, 1939
Died: Oct. 2, 2012

Veteran

Vince was born Jan. 2, 1939 at Ft. Meade, Md. and passed on Oct. 2, 2012. Vince joined the USAF in 1956 and was stationed in Germany where he meet his wife of 54 years, Gisela. After 12 years of service, he received an honorable discharge in March of 1968.  He was a Radio Op with the 1st DASF out of Japan during the Vietnam War. Living in Florida at the time, his brother told him that PSNS was hiring. He packed up the family and moved to Kitsap county, settling in Port Orchard for the last 44 years.

Vince worked as a welding inspector for 12 years before moving on to real estate. Vince loved the outdoors and the freedom that it brought. His favorite hobbies were fishing, taking care of his fruit orchard, and hunting for mushrooms.

He is survived by his wife, Gisela Green; sons, Richard Green and Steve Green of Port Orchard; granddaughter, Leslie Green of Seattle; his brother, Ken Green of Alaska; and nephew, Ken Green Jr. of Shelton.

Happiness is not something you experience, it is something you remember, so Dad I would like to thank you for all of the lifelong memories you helped create. You will always be in our thoughts. Rest in Peace.

There will be no memorial services, at his request.

Vincent passed away due to cancer.  He will be missed by all who knew him.

Tom Branham notified me today 31 Jan 14 if Vincent's passing.

David Brookbank COL USAF Ret passed away Monday Nov 21st.

Maj. Brookbank commanded the Largest Air evacuation in Vietnam prior to the Fall of Saigon. He was submitted for Award of the Legion of Merit by US Army Maj. Joe Griggs.

Thankfully, we met at the reunion in Dallas Fort Worth Oct 2010. He had been treated and also had surgery's. Pain was nothing new to David. He overcame it before he served in Vietnam for 6 years, I believe he said. David loved his family and appreciated the renewing of lost contact of those who served in the War. He will be missed, I am saddened beyond words.

Please Pray for his Family.

David Brookbank=20 ALO Trail Control attached to Team 155 US MACV Advisory team, USAF Advisory Group, Air Force Advisory Team 1,  AFAT.

REQUEST:  Does anybody has funeral details for Dave Brookbank?

I received this in an email and assume that they are referring to
David Brookbank shown above.

It is with great sadness that I have to announce that Joe Trexler of the 5th DASF took his life.

Joe Trexler was a very tormented man-tormented by calling in an air strike that killed many old men, women and children. He' had many nightmares about it the past month or two and talked with his friend in Calif. about it. Sunday, Dec. 27th, he took a gun to me and then pointed it at himself saying something to the effect that he wanted out of this life. I called my daughter to come up and make him put it away. The VA called the next day and I inadvertently told them about that incident since I thought they already knew from someone else. They asked if I had called the police, but I did not because I knew if Joe knew I did, he'd be very angry with me.

I asked them to do it. They did, the cops came to my door & I told them he was at the old house getting trash out of the garage.  Evidently they waited till later after I'd gone to a Dr. appointment to come back. He'd gone out to get a sandwich and cigarettes and saw them as he came around the corner, backed up and ran away for 3 days. I didn't know if he had any clothes, his meds or anything. He later told me he'd gotten an emergency supply of meds from the local VA office.

Today, after running errands I came home , found his bedroom door locked, went downstairs and asked my daughter if she'd talked to him the past few hours and she said only earlier this morning.

I came back up stairs, hopped up to get the key to the door, opened it and saw him with his eyes open, moving closer I said 'Honey are you ok?' and that's when I saw the blood all over his head, pillows and bed. I screamed for Danielle to come up stairs right away. Her husband called the police. He's dead and I don't know where or when the funeral will be. I don't know time of death or anything yet due to a supposed pile up of bodies in the morgue to be processed.

My question is this, why didn't the person at the VA detain him for mental evaluation knowing what I'd told them the day before? Why didn't the cops run his name to get his truck license number and pick him up? If they had he could've been saved from himself and all the misery we now feel over the loss of my husband, my kids father and grandchildren's grandfather . At the funeral we hope no one slips and says he killed himself. For the sake of the kids, he died of a massive heart attack.

I'm strong, with God's help, know GOD is with me always, but still am not believing he did this. God knew he was not in his right mind, so I know he's at peace, in Heaven with those that went on before him.

Subject: Our good friend passes

It is with heartfelt sadness that I have to inform you all that our long time friend Glenn Baker has passed away. His wife Virginia called this morning with the sad news. Glenn had had some recent heart problems and that apparently was the cause, as he died peacefully but unexpectedly at home.

Glenn was a wonderful, caring person. It is hard to put into words how warm and friendly he was, but all who knew will understand. I will miss his frequent emails and our occasional but great conversations over the phone.

To those who wish to send cards of sympathy to the family, the address is:

Virginia Barker
4101 W. ILES, Apt 129
Springfield, Illinois 62711

Subject: Ed Janus

Greetings,

I am sorry for the late notice and the bad news, but I have just now been able to get into Dad's emails.

Ed passed away peacefully doing what he does best... taking a power nap on his couch.

We are having a memorial for him at the Harrells Funeral Home in Kyle, Texas tomorrow at 2:30 p.m. - 1/2/2012.

He had a good run of almost 74 years and enjoyed the friendship you all have provided him all of these years. I know many of you go way back to the good old days. I know you will all carry good memories of my father and he greatly enjoy your friendship.

Take care.
