Welcome to Saluda, North Carolina at the top of the Saluda Grade
The Steepest Standard Gauge Mainline Railroad in the United States.

Looking North at the Unit Coal Train coming into Saluda and is traveling UP HILL to
the "Hump" where it will continue DOWN HILL to Stop Board No. 2 and come to the
Mandatory STOP.  Then ALL cars will be inspected on foot and all air cyclendars will
be charged up to max.  Then the train will be permitted to start down the grade with a
Max speed allowable of 8 MPG.  The three front engines will be in dynamic braking all
the way down while the two engines at the rear of the train will be pushing till they get
close to the hump and then they will freewheel and shift easily into dynamic braking.
